This study investigated the effects of nicotine exposure on Drosophila melanogaster development and immune responses using a combined transcriptomic and metabolomic approach. The study compared the impact of nicotine on immune responses in both Wolbachia-infected and uninfected flies. Key findings revealed that nicotine exposure significantly reduced the lifespan of the flies, while concurrently enhancing their immune capacity. Furthermore, Wolbachia infection demonstrably improved host immunity, and, to some extent, mitigated the adverse effects of nicotine on the flies.
