BRIDGING HUMAN DIGNITY WITH TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT: SAFEGUARDING RIGHTS IN THE DIGITAL ERA

ABSTRACT: India's digital revolution has fundamentally altered the social, economic and legal fabric of the nation impacting every aspect of daily life and community structure. Driven by initiatives such as Digital India, the exponential rise of internet connectivity and rapid proliferation of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, big data, Internet of Things (IoT) and automation, the country is experiencing unprecedented opportunities for economic growth, empowerment and inclusion.Yet, these advancements also prompt urgent questions about the protection and promotion of human dignity, privacy and justice in the digital era.This research explores the evolution and philosophical foundations of human dignity tracing its emergence from ancient roots to its enshrinement as a universal value underpinning modern human rights law. It examines how technological trends reshape societal interactions, challenges the traditional boundaries of privacy and autonomy and invokes critical debates around digital exclusion, algorithmic bias and the digital divideespecially for marginalized groups.The study critically analyzes India's evolving legal and ethical frameworks including the DPDP Act, 2023 and landmark judicial pronouncements such as the recognition of privacy as a fundamental right and the inclusion of digital access within the right to dignity. It underscores the importance of adopting "human rights by design," regulatory mechanisms and participatory policy-making to ensure that innovation is equitable and respectful of fundamental rights.Policy and design approaches emphasizing accessibility, accountability and digital literacy are presented as crucial strategies to empower users and reduce risks.
