Bamboo functional traits related to fire

This data set contains the working spreadsheet data files, tidied data, and R scripts used in data analysis and graphics generation for a comparison of functional traits related to fire for the selected Neotropical woody bamboo species. Data were used to analyze how functional traits related to fire differed between savanna species <i>Guadua paniculata</i>, <i>Actinocladum verticillatum</i>, and <i>Vianaea effusa</i>, and forest-associated <i>G. chacoensis</i>, <i>G. superba</i>, and <i>G. weberbaueri</i>, to understand the functional traits that could allow recent divergence of fire-associated C3 grasses from forest-associated ancestors. The functional traits measured include aboveground characteristics such as culm height, length, and basal diameter, and aboveground biomass (separated by fuel class), belowground characteristics including rhizome length, width, and number of rhizomes and dormant rhizome buds and culm buds produced, as well as resprouts of the original culm.
