From erratic to sedentary lifestyle: seasonal development of fidelity and traditional site use in long-lived flamingos

Traking data for the manuscript entitled: From erratic to sedentary lifestyle: seasonal development of fidelity and traditional site use in long-lived flamingos.From 2015 to 2024, 101 greater flamingos (15 females, 34 males, and 52 of unknown sex) were fitted with GPS loggers just before fledging (Table S1). This was achieved by driving part of the crèche into a corral during the annual ringing operations of the species (see Johnson & Cézilly 2007 for details). Captures were made at four colonies in salt pans: (1) Aigues-Mortes (north-western Mediterranean Sea, France), (2) Molentargius (central Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia, Italy), (3) Comacchio (north-western Adriatic Sea, Italy) and (4) Margherita di Savoia (Adriatic Sea near the Gulf of Manfredonia, Italy) (Fig. 2A). Juvenile greater flamingos were tagged with 5 models of 25 g, solar GSM-GPS devices from different manufacturers: OMNI 2G, Interrex, Poland; Ornitrack-25, Ornitela, Lithuania; SAKER-H and SAKER-L, Ecotone, Poland; GsmTag-U9, Milsar, Cyprus. Most devices were attached as backpacks with a Teflon harness, except for the Interrex devices, which were mounted on one tarsus. All devices recorded geographical locations day and night at intervals ranging from 1 to 2 h.
