This map is the *1:4,000,000 Glacial and Frozen Soil Map of China*, compiled by Mr. Shi Yafeng and Mi Desheng. The working base map used for this cartographic work was the Hanyu Pinyin Version of the People's Republic of China map, which retained the hydrological and mountain annotations from the original base map while adding additional cartographic annotations for mountainous features. The compilation of the frozen soil component of the map was based on three types of data: actual field survey and exploration data of frozen soils, interpreted remote sensing data, as well as air temperature conditions and topographic features that influence the formation and distribution of frozen soils.
