Geochemical data from a weathered profile of Castlemaine Group sediments at Lockington, central Victoria, southeastern Australia.

The mineralogy and geochemistry of a fresh to weathered profile of Ordovician Castlemaine Group turbiditic sediments from the Lockington East prospect, in central Victorian, southeastern Australia, is investigated to determine weathering conditions leading to the dissolution of apatite. A single drillhole, 07LODH030 from Lockington East, was used in this study based on the preservation of a large interval of fresh through to weathered basement. A combination of portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF), whole rock geochemistry and apatite geochemistry has been utilised to characterise the mineral and chemical changes throughout the weathered profile.
