Landscape Types and Ratings Germany

Cultural landscapes are natural space units characterised by the activity of human society and can thus be understood as a synthesis of land nature and land use. Conceptually, the landscape differs from the natural space above all in that, in the former, the actual use takes place as a significantly defining factor. As a criterion for the delimitation of landscapes, natural spatial boundaries, the current use of land on the basis of satellite image evaluations and other landscape boundaries applicable to sub-areas were used. Due to the similar nature of certain features, the individual landscapes are each assigned to a landscape type. The landscape types are defined in such a way that the characteristic and landscape-shaping elements that are easily recognizable in the terrain are in the foreground.
