Effects of combined lemon balm, Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14, and vitamin B2 supplementation on the gut microbiome using the Simulator of the Human Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem (SHIME) model: an in-depth analysis

The effects of the test product on the gut microbiome were evaluated using the Simulator of the Human Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem (SHIME) technology platform with fecal suspensions from six individual healthy donors. Gas pressure and metabolic activity were evaluated (lactate, acetate, butyrate, propionate). Metagenomics, functional profiling, and metabolomics methods allowed a comprehensive, in-depth evaluation of gut microbiome changes following supplementation at 0, 3, 6, and 24 h.
