VPRS 14702 File Location and Top-Number Cards for Portion of pre 1959 General Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number System (Variable Top Number)

This series appears to have been created by the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission (VA 723) in the early 1970s in order to facilitate tracking the location and top-numbering of files. It appears to have been maintained by the agency as a handy retrieval tool eliminating the need to tediously search for files using a number of other controlling records.The information recorded on these cards included: movement details, final location, top-numbering and amalgamation of files, which were later serialised as VPRS 3844 General Correspondence Files (Alphabetically Re-arranged Inactive Portion of VPRS 6008 - pre 1928 Files), Single Number System and VPRS 6008 General Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number Systems.This series was maintained by the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission and its administrative successor, the Rural Water Commission (VA 2338) till 1987.
