In this study we studied the effect of operational parameters, such as pH shocks or HRT changes, in the microbial community of a pilot reactor operated at ambient temperature. The reactor was treating real wastewater from dairy processing. We observed that pH shocks higher than 8.5 would induce a shift in the microbial community with impact in the reactor’s performance. On the other hand, HRT decrease with a simultaneous increase of the loading rate, induced irreversible shifts in the community without affecting the performance of the reactor.
