Design Files for Hand-Operated and Motorized Twisted Pair Preparation Devices Abstract This library includes design files and testing demos for a hand-operated device and a motorized device for preparing twisted pair specimens used for partial discharge (PD) testing, under the scope of a NASA EPSCoR R3 project on acoustic detection of PD. The devices were developed following ASTM D2307-21. The hand-operated unit was developed by Danniel Curl. The motorized unit was developed by a 2025 - 2026 Capstone Project team in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arkansas, including Ty Merseal, Ethan Lett, Tanner Youngblood, Luke Allison, and Rowan Swendner, advised by Prof. David Jensen. Acoustic testing of PD in twisted pairs was performed by Stephen Pierson. The team appreciates the guidance from Dr. Timothy Krantz and Dr. Thomas Tallerico at the NASA Glenn Research Center. Description of the data and file structure This dataset includes CAD models, reports, and presentations for a hand-operated unit and a motorized unit for preparing twisted pair specimens. Files and variables File: ned3-010_twisted_pair_preparation_device.zip Description: This zip file includes two folders, i.e., Hand-Operated Unit and Motorized Unit, which include the design files for two units, respectively. Hand-Operated Unit: This folder includes two sub-folders: CAD and Pictures, and two files: BOM - Twisted Pair Device.xlsx and Twisted Pair Device Poster 6-3-25.pptx CAD: This folder includes SolidWorks part and assembly files, as well as machine drawings for parts used to develop the hand-operated unit. Picutures: This folder includes pictures for the device without specimens, device with a specimen before twisting, device with a specimen after twisting, and representative twisted pair specimens. BOM - Twisted Pair Device.xlsx: Bill of materials for developing the hand-operated unit. Twisted Pair Device Poster 6-3-25.pptx: A poster summarizing the design of the hand-operated unit. Motorized Unit: This folder includes one sub-folders: FINAL DRAWINGS AND PARTS and four files: BOM.xlsx, Twisted pair preparation device demo_Apr24_2026.mov, Wire Twist Final Presentation.pptx, and Wire Twist Report May 2026.pdf FINAL DRAWINGS AND PARTS: This folder includes a subfolder "CAD" that includes SolidWorks part and assembly files for constructing the motorzied unit and a file "WIRE TWIST FINAL-combined.pdf" for machine drawings. BOM: Bill of materials for the motorized unit. Twisted pair preparation device demo_Apr24_2026.mov: A video clip for a quick demo of the motorized unit, captured during the Capstone Project final presentation. Model revision and adaptation The CAD models are prepared using SolidWorks. The part and assembly files can be modified using SolidWorks.
