This study aims to optimize the efficiency of microbial electro-synthesis (MES) systems in converting carbon dioxide into acetate, a key objective given the significant potential of MES in sustainable carbon capture and the production of high-value-added chemicals. To this end, the study systematically investigated the synergistic mechanisms between inorganic carbon (IC) form and cathode pH, two critical factors influencing MES performance, whose combined effects have not yet been fully elucidated. The significance of this study lies in its multifaceted value. It addresses a pressing challenge in MES technology by clarifying how pH influences acetate yield and coulombic efficiency by regulating the distribution of IC forms, thereby filling a gap in our understanding of the relationship between reactor microenvironmental conditions and microbial metabolic activity.
