Prokaryotic (rRNA-depleted) metatranscriptomic samples from the GRADIENTS 1.0 expedition (KOK1606) in April-May 2016. Duplicate plankton samples of ~7 liters of seawater were pre-filtered through a 200 µm mesh and collected sequentially onto 3.0 µm and 0.2 µm polycarbonate filters from the surface mixed layer (~15 m) along a transect (latitudes from 23.5 to 37.3 degrees N) in the North Pacific at 158 degrees W.
