Deletion of tctE or tctDE in Pseudomonas aeruginosa causes a long lag when growing in citrate or cis-aconitate. Cells that grow in citrate after this long lag obtain a heritable mutation that reduces the lag time to almost as short as a wild type PA14 strain. The adaptation results in restored expression of the opdH-tctCBA operon, which encodes a critical tripartite transporter (TctCBA) and a suspected citrate outer membrane porin OpdH. We have deposited here WGS genomes from parental and citrate-adapted strains of tctE and tctDE mutants.
