Abuse Directed at Teachers: Survey of Scottish School 2022/2023 academic year

This report is a review of Abuse Directed at Teachers (ADT) occurrence rates within Scotland. It is the first of its kind that specifically looked at only ADT with Scotland and/or the UK. Dividing the entire sample into two smaller data sets, primary or secondary teachers, the data reviews their response to questions relating to ADT victimization by their students and/or the parent/legal guardian of pupils. This report only reflects self-reported, known as direct acts of ADT, occurrence rates and does not reflect any indirect, observed acts of ADT, events. Only a small fraction of the survey questions were addressed within the report and as these questions were a direct reflect of the EIS request for a smaller grouping of results than what the full survey would reflect. The raw data is not included within the DataShare file as it is part of a doctoral program that is expected to conclude in 2024. Survey questions included in this work examine the occurrence rate of direct ADT, most common form of ADT experience by teachers, the work satisfaction levels of victims of ADT, and how victims of ADT interact with pupils that have shown abusive tendencies in the past. The full sample size was broken into the smaller data sets by the grade in school taught by the participants. Each data set has its own statistical analysis and comparison of one to the other is included in the report.
