Groundwater stairs peatlands

The Province of Utrecht has drawn up a soil vision to limit subsidence. The groundwater stairways are used here. The Water Boards also use the groundwater staircase map to draw up water management plans. For the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, which has been part of the province of Utrecht since 1 January 2019, no data is yet available. A groundwater stair chart shows the position of the groundwater relative to the ground level. The Soil Map Veengebieds province Utrecht and this groundwater staircase map, scale 1:25,000 is an update of existing soil information. The groundwater stair chart, together with the corresponding stocks, provides insight into the altitude of groundwater levels in winter, spring and summer.
