Reddit threads people say Google or ChatGPT sent them to, by type, age and subreddit, 2025 to 2026

Thread types, thread ages and subreddit rates for 19,749 Reddit comments from January 2025 to September 2026 where the writer says a search engine or an AI assistant brought them to the thread, compared with a random sample of all Reddit comments. The method, charts and the full write-up are on that page. Files: reddit-referral-thread-types-2025-2026.csv: Thread types, January 2025 to September 2026. Share of each thread type among search arrivals, AI arrivals and typical comments, for threads older than 30 days and for all ages, with counts. reddit-referral-thread-age-2025-2026.csv: Thread age at arrival. Share of search and AI arrivals by the age of the thread when the person arrived. reddit-referral-subreddits-rate-2025-2026.csv: Subreddits by arrivals per million comments. All 121 subreddits with at least 15 threads with an arrival: threads, arrivals from search and AI, all comments and the rate. Method: Strict English phrase list matched on full comment text; thread type from title patterns, checked by two independent AI labelers; comparison with a 1-in-10,000 random sample of all comments in threads of the same age. Measured: Share of arrivals by thread type; Share of arrivals by thread age; Threads with an arrival per million comments, by subreddit. All files contain aggregates only, no individual posts or user names.
