Meriones meridianus isolate:Mm2023-08 Genome sequencing

This BioProject aims to generate and characterize a high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of the Midday Gerbil (Meriones meridianus), an ecologically important desert rodent widely distributed across northwestern China. A male individual of the subspecies M. m. psammophilus collected in Gansu Province was sequenced using PacBio HiFi long reads, Illumina paired-end reads, and Hi-C data to enable de novo assembly and chromosome anchoring. The resulting 2.86 Gb genome provides a valuable genomic resource for studies of population genomics, evolutionary history, environmental adaptation, and functional biology of desert rodents. This BioProject also supports genome-wide resequencing and evolutionary analyses of 89 individuals representing seven subspecies of M. meridianus.
