Genomic analyses of an Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae urinary tract co-infection.

Two bacterial strains, E. coli and K. pneumoniae were recovered from the same urine catheter specimen sample from a patient experiencing recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). These strains presented with the same antibiotic phenotypic resistance profile. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) was undertaken to determine whether the strains shared a similar resistance encoding plasmid.
