Dataset related to "Evaluating single-burst, continuous, and WAG CO₂ injection through reactive transport modelling in basalts: controls on carbonation and reservoir evolution"

This dataset provides laboratory-measured porosity values for basalt core samples from the Mhow formation of the Malwa Plateau, Deccan Volcanic Province, central India. The data constitute Table S10 of the Supporting Information for the manuscript "Evaluating Single-Burst, Continuous, and WAG CO₂ Injection through Reactive Transport Modelling in Basalts: Controls on Carbonation and Reservoir Evolution" (Torel Samyuktha S., Subhadip Adak, and Jyotirmoy Mallik, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, IISER Bhopal), submitted to Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems. Porosity was determined gravimetrically using the water saturation method. Six basalt samples (L1, L2, L3, L7, L7-LF, L7-UF) were dried, weighed, and saturated over four days under controlled conditions. Pore volume was calculated as the difference between saturated and dry weight, assuming a water density of 1 g/cc. Bulk volume was calculated assuming a sample density of 2.8 g/cc. Porosity (%) was derived as the ratio of pore volume to bulk volume. The average measured porosity across all samples is 10%, which was used as the initial porosity input (φ₀ = 10%) for the Mhow reactive transport simulations. This dataset is part of a broader study comparing CO₂ mineralization efficiency across three injection strategies (Single Burst, Pulsed WAG, and Continuous) in two basaltic formations: the Deccan Trap Basalt of the Malwa Plateau (MHOW) and the Grande Ronde Basalt of the Columbia River Basalt Group (CRBG).
