Ticks secrete small anti-inflammatory proteins in their saliva. These proteins inhibit important signalling molecules that drive white blood cells to become activated and migrate in diseases like atherosclerosis. Tick evasins have shown anti-inflammatory properties in mouse models but do not last long enough in the blood to be good drugs. This project focuses on increasing the longevity of evasins in mice, for use in a model of atherosclerosis.
