资源简介:
As part of PhD thesis research, I sought to investigate medicinal plants that are understudied yet valued in traditional medicine. The ethnomedical plant Grewia rhamnifolia serves as an ideal candidate, with its root bark paste being applied to reduce swellings despite limited pharmacological literature supporting this use (Sarvalingam et al., 2017). With rising costs and adverse effects of prolonged synthetic drug use, urban populations are increasingly turning to traditional herbal remedies as affordable and accessible healthcare options for everyday ailments (Marco and Casu, 2013). However, among the numerous traditional medicines practiced, few have undergone rigorous scientific analysis. This research aims to pharmacognostically characterize selected Indian medicinal plants to authenticate their identity and composition through microscopic, phytochemical, and molecular techniques. Elucidating the bioactive phytochemical constituents and pharmacological activities will also reveal the mechanisms and safety profiles underlying their traditional uses. Overall, this study will generate vital evidence on the ethnobotanical value of these understudied medicinal plants so they can be effectively and safely integrated into evidence-based complementary and alternative medicine.
