Ecology Lab 3 - Pan Trap

At 2:30pm on Wednesday, October 1st, 2014 this lab was conducted in both the grasslands and the woodlot on the York University campus outside of the lumbers building. Using twelve small bowls, four blue, four white and four yellow, six were placed in the grasslands and six were placed in the woodlot while alternating colours. Each bowl was placed one meter apart from each other. We then placed roughly 30-40mL of soapy water into each bowl in both the woodlot and the grasslands. At the end of the lab, at 4:30pm, the bowls were collected and the number of insects and the recognizable taxonomic units were recorded.
