This study aims to identify endogenous microRNA targets in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and determine the mode of regulation (suppression by cleavage or by translational repression). To accomplish this goal, we first used small RNAs associated with the AGO3 protein for miRNA prediction, then used those predicted miRNAs to predict targets for both translational repression and cleavage. These predictions were compared against the expression data for the predicted targets in both WT cells and cells that are deficient in miRNA biogenesis.
