Macroeconomic, Trade, and Natural Resource Data for Iran (2004–2023)

This dataset presents annual data for Iran covering the years 2004 to 2023, focusing on key macroeconomic indicators, trade, and natural resource variables. The dataset includes Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in current US dollars (World Bank), trade balance figures representing the net exports of goods and services (World Bank), and value added by agriculture, forestry, and fishing (AO), as well as industry including construction (IO), both as shares of GDP (FAO; Statistical Center of Iran). It further provides information on renewable internal freshwater resources, measured in billion cubic meters (FAO), and estimates of virtual water exports, reflecting the volume of water embedded in exported goods (FAO). The total value of exports (EX) is also reported based on national and international statistics (World Bank; Statistical Center of Iran). This comprehensive dataset facilitates research on the interrelations between macroeconomic performance, sectoral value added, trade, and the role of natural resources in Iran’s economic development.
