Youngiibacter is a newly described genus of clostridia. Its type strain, Y. fragile, is a strictly anaerobic, gram negative, non-spore forming rod that is capable of fermenting a range of carbohydrates to ethanol, formate, acetate, and CO2. It was originally isolated from produced water collected from a coal-bed methane (CBM) producing well in the Beluga River Gas Field (Alaska).
