BETA-FOR_SP6_Syrphidae_2022/2023

This dataset includes records of hoverfly (Syrphidae) species collected using standarized pan trap sampling across the 234 BETA-FOR patches. In each patch, three clusters of one yellow, white, and blue pan trap were placed along a transect crossing the patch center, with at least 15 m between clusters. Traps were filled with water and a drop of detergent and exposed for 48 hours per sampling round. Sampling was conducted during three periods - April, June, and July - across two consecutive years. In 2022, 180 patches were sampled, with 90 located in the University Forest and 90 in the Bavarian Forest. In 2023, 54 patches in Saarland, Hunsrück, and Lübeck were sampled. All collected hoverfly specimens were sorted, and afterwards identified to species level by Gisela Merkel-Wallner. The dataset includes a total of 13,532 individuals representing 120 hoverfly species.
