This dataset represents preliminary weekly estimates of cumulative U.S. COVID-19 burden, including illnesses, outpatient visits, hospitalizations and deaths, since the start of 2024 respiratory season. Estimates are preliminary, and use reported weekly hospitalizations among people with a laboratory-confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The data are updated weekly as new COVID-19 hospitalizations are reported to CDC from the COVID-NET surveillance system and include both new admissions that occurred during the reporting week, as well as those admitted in previous weeks that may not have been included in earlier reporting. Each week CDC estimates a range (i.e., a lower estimate and an upper estimate) of COVID-19 hospitalizations, illnesses, outpatient visits, and deaths that have occurred since the start of respiratory season. For details, please refer to the publications [1, 8]. Note: Data are preliminary and subject to change as updated data become available. Rates for recent COVID-19 hospital admissions are subject to reporting delays; as new data are received each week, previous rates are updated accordingly. The methodology used for COVID-19 burden estimation between the surveillance periods was updated to account for inclusion of additional surveillance sites, seasonal changes to adjustment factors, revised outpatient visits, illnesses and death multiplier ratios, and improvements in estimation methods [1]. References 1.
