Diatoms are photosynthetic microalgae and its potential to evaluate various issues like environmental changes, bloom dynamics, taxonomic composition and water quality assessment makes it an excellent choice to study the interspecific and intraspecific differences among diatoms communities. We have designed oligonucleotide primers for amplification of 16S rRNA and psaA gene locus from Cyclotella meneghiniana (diatom) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and resulting PCR amplicon were further sequenced.Description of Cyclotella meneghiniana Kutzing obtained from water body of Haryana, India: Dimensional parameters of this genus vary for their diameter from 14.31 µm to 17.46 µm. The valve face is flat and its center is unornamented. Radial striae are present at margins of the valves which are broader at the margin and tapering towards the center. Nineteen numbers of striae are present along the valve face. Frustules of the specimen are cylindrical in shape.
