Originally digitized for the UNEP/FAO/ESRI Database for Africa from
the UNESCO Vegetation maps of the Mediterrannean and the area south of
the Sahara, as well as NOAA chlorophyl index imagery. To provide an
adequate estimate of actual vegetative structure and crown cover,
Defence Mapping Agency (DMA) sheets at 1:2000000, were photo-reduced
and overlaid with the FAO base maps to add vegetation structure and
average density for forest, tree savanna and bunch grass. GRID-Geneva
rasterized the Senegal Vegetation Types dataset for
UNEP/GRID/WHO/CISFAM Senegal Database with a cell size of 30 seconds
and two minutes lat/lon (approximately one- and four
kilometeter-square pixels, respectively). The Vegetation patterns were
given a 2-digit code number: the first digit is the vegetation type
second digit indicates drainage condition: 1, 2, 8 = INUNDATED 9 = NOT
INUNDATED or RICE

The SENEGAL3 file shows vegetation patterns of Senegal. REMARK: file
may have limited applicability at national scale as it was extracted
from continental.
