This dataset abstract presents findings from a study focused on enhancing surface crack detection in railroad safety through the development and optimization of a hybrid Eddy Current Testing (ECT) probe. Traditional ECT methods often encounter challenges related to 'lift-off noise', which arises from variations in probe-to-material distances. To mitigate this issue, the study introduces a novel probe design that integrates transmit and differential receiver coils, aimed at improving detection sensitivity and minimizing lift-off impact. The research objectives include quantitative evaluation of each probe using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), real-time data processing algorithm development based on SNR methodology, exploration of optimal frequency range near the electrical resonance of the receiver coil, and examination of sensitivity variations across varying lift-off distances.Experimental results demonstrate that the newly designed probe, featuring a figure 8-shape driver coil, significantly enhances sensitivity in detecting surface cracks on railroads. Notably, the probe achieves an impressive SNR exceeding 100 for defects with minimal dimensions of 1 mm in width and depth. Simulation outcomes closely align with experimental findings, validating the investigation of optimal operational frequency (0.3 MHz) and lift-off distance (0.5 mm) for optimal probe performance.The dataset derived from this project offers valuable insights into the performance and optimization of ECT probes for railroad safety applications, contributing to advancements in crack detection efficiency and ultimately enhancing railroad safety.
