The mechanism of action of SARS-CoV-2 on neutrophils remains unclear, although an elevated neutrophil count is observed in patients with severe COVID-19. Neutrophil heterogeneity plays a role in the pathogenesis of various diseases. In particular, normal-density granulocytes (NDGs) and low-density granulocytes (LDGs) exhibit specific immunological response. We aimed to explore a novel approach by evaluating the transcriptional profiles of NDGs and LDGs in response to SARS-CoV-2 ex vivo.
