Water quality organic - Ecotopen Rijkswateren - planes sixth cycle (RWS)

From the Meuse, the Rhine branches-East, the Rhine-Maas estuary, the Volkerak-Zoommeer and the IJsselmeer area, an ecotope map is supplied every 6 years. Ecotope maps are an important part of Rijkswaterstaat's biological monitoring programme. An ecotope map is built up by combining several layers of information, such as a vegetation structure map, a water depth map, a flood duration map, etc. The vegetation structure map is the most important layer based on high-resolution stereo photos. An ecotope is defined as a spatially delimitable ecological unit, the composition and development of which are determined by abiotic, biotic and anthropogenic aspects taken together. The 1st cycle mappings were carried out in the period from 1997 to 1998 (year of photo flights). The 2nd cycle mappings were carried out in the period from 2004 to 2006 (year of photo flights). The 3rd cycle mappings were carried out in the period from 2008 to 2012 (year of photo flights). The 4th cycle mappings were carried out in the period from 2012 to 2018 (year of photo flights). RIJN-MAASMONDING 4thCC: delivery expected 2nd quarter 2020. The fifth cycle of mapping concerns the mapping of all the above-mentioned water systems, of which the Rhine branches-East and Meuse were collected in 2017 and the collection of the lakes is planned in 2021 and the Rhine Meuse estuary in 2024.
