The sex differentiation system in insects is regulated by the alternative splicing cascade and is a unique mechanism among Metazoa. This study aimed to reveal the evolutionary process and origin of the insect sexual differentiation system. To uncover it, the gene expression profile in an apterygote, Thermobia domestica, was analyzed.
