Trailing edge contractions are common in interior western US trees under varying disturbances

FIA_plot_disturbance_data.csv contains USDA Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) plots categorized by the most recent disturbance experienced in the 30 years prior to the most recent inventory. If two or more disturbances were equally recent at a plot, the plot was assigned to the disturbance hypothesized to have the greatest ecological effects (fire > harvest > wind > insect/disease > other). All plots that burned within the last 10 years were automatically put in the "fire" category due to fire's dominant control on tree regeneration (the subject of study). The PLT_CN column indicates the FIA plot code, which matches the PLT_CN columns in publicly available FIA datasets. Agent indicates the disturbance agent, dist_year is the year of the disturbance, source indicates the source of the disturbance data and MEASYEAR indicates the most recent measurement year for each plot. Disturbance data was extracted from the FIA tree and condition data tables and was also extracted using the LANDFIRE vegetation disturbance database (https://www.landfire.gov/disturbance/vdist) and the MTBS fire perimeter database (https://www.mtbs.gov).

shift_type_fia.csv contains the results of the analysis, categorized by the type of shift experienced on each principal component, for each species, in each disturbance type. The direction of the shift is also indicated.

shift_type_hot.csv contains the results of the supplementary analysis of just degree days below 0C and winter precipitation as the two climate axes. It states which type of shift occurred, and in which direction, for each species in each disturbance type on each of the climate axes.
