Kashgar project: Gollings collection. Turfan landscape

Photographs were taken by John Gollings in March-April 2005 as part of the Kashgar Project. This sub-collection contains images of the snow-covered mountains surrounding Turfan City.
The Kashgar Project brings together teams from the Monash Asia Institute and Urumqi Normal University in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, in an international research collaboration to document, measure, and define the most significant cultural monuments and spaces of Kashgar. The Monash Asia Institute and Urumqi Normal University teams are working with the support of the Department of Tourism, Government of Xinjiang and the Department of Foreign Relations, Kashgar. For the purposes of this collection, Kasghar is defined as the modern and ancient city and the eleven countries that currently form the greater region of "Kasghar".
All images within the collection have been converted to jpeg format from the raw image files.

喀什噶尔项目（Kashgar Project）为一项国际科研合作项目，由澳大利亚莫纳什亚洲研究所（Monash Asia Institute）与中国新疆维吾尔自治区乌鲁木齐市的乌鲁木齐师范大学（Urumqi Normal University）团队联合实施，旨在记录、测绘并明确喀什噶尔地区最具影响力的文化遗存与公共空间。莫纳什亚洲研究所与乌鲁木齐师范大学的项目团队，在新疆维吾尔自治区政府旅游部门及喀什噶尔外事部门的支持下开展此项工作。

就本合集的界定范围而言，喀什噶尔（Kasghar）涵盖其古今城区，以及当前构成“喀什噶尔大区域”的11个国家。
