VPRS 5016 Mining Warden's Register Of Mining Company Tribute Agreement, Stawell Mining Division

This series was used by the Mining Warden at Stawell to register mining company tribute agreements.In their administrative rile, Mining Wardens were required to register agreements relating to mining leases. In the case of private property leases the person wishing to mine could enter into an agreement with the owner of the land as to the conditions for mining on it.In other cases, a "tributer" could make an agreement with a lessee to work a mine or a portion of one in return for a percentage of the revenue from the mine. The conditions of such an arrangement would be set out in a tribute agreement.A register of agreements would usually include the following information:- the date of and parties to the agreement- the terms and conditions of the agreement, and- the area and locality of the land to which the agreement applies.-
