Unraveling Dengue Serotype 3 Transmission in Brazil: Evidence for Multiple Introductions of the 3III_B.3.2 Lineage

This dataset contains genomic and phylogeographic analyses of the recent reemergence of Dengue virus serotype 3 (DENV-3) in Brazil during 2023-2024. The study focuses on 1,541 DENV-3 genomes, including two newly sequenced genomes from the state of Pará, Brazil. The genomes were classified as belonging to the 3III genotype, dominant in Brazil since 2001. The analyses revealed the circulation of two main lineages within genotype 3III, with the 3III_B.3.2 lineage associated with recent Brazilian cases. Phylogeographic results identified multiple independent introductions of this lineage into Brazil from the Caribbean, with subsequent internal dispersal. These findings underscore the importance of genomic surveillance in controlling DENV-3 outbreaks and the need for coordinated public health efforts.
