Altered gut microbiota in people undergone traumatic splenectomy associated with endotoxmia

Traumatic splenectomy is an emergency operation applied in about 30% spleen injury patients. Previous study has confirmed that the risk of infection becomes higher in patients who suffered splenectomy, however, mechanism of the increasing infection rates is still unknown. High infection rate was also observed in some underlying disease such as circulation system diseases, type II dibetes and obesity, as a consequence of low grade inflammation associating with disordered gut microbiota. So we infer that gut microbiota associated low grade inflammation might exist in post-splenectomy patients, finally lead a high risk of infection and sepsis.
