ENDURE - Anglophone degrowth discourse corpus (curated), 2014–2023

This dataset contains metadata for 3,002 English-language news-media articles that were used in the study “A decade of degrowth discourse in written news media: quantitative indicators and thematic composition of the coverage.” The articles were retrieved from EventRegistry using the EventRegistry API in a Python environment, based on a query for the term “degrowth” in English-language articles published between 1 January 2014 and 30 June 2023; the search was executed on 31 July 2023 separately for each year. The initial retrieval produced 6,873 records. After removing 364 exact duplicate records and excluding 3,507 items where “degrowth” was used only in the sense of “decline” (e.g., “degrowth of sales”) via two-researcher screening, the final corpus comprised 3,002 articles.

The deposited file includes article-level metadata (date, source, title, country, URL) and derived indicators used in the quantitative analysis (article length in words and the number of occurrences of the term “degrowth”). In addition, it contains topic-model outputs: for each article, the dataset provides the probability weights for 100 topics (Topic 0–Topic 99) and two summary fields indicating the dominant topic label and its numeric ID (“dominant topic” and “dominant topic no.”).
