Protective Effects of Famotidine Against Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Male Wistar Rats

ResultsBiochemical analysis showed increased serum creatinine and BUN levels in the I/R group, which were significantly reduced in the famotidine-treated group.Oxidative stress markers improved markedly with famotidine. Histopathologicalresults revealed reduced tubular necrosis, cast formation, and inflammatoryinfiltration in the treated group.DiscussionFamotidine demonstrated a significant protective effect on renal tissues exposedto I/R injury. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties likely contribute tothe observed improvement. These results align with previous findings suggestingnon-gastric protective effects of H2-receptor antagonists.
