Phase II Cultural Resource Investigations of Fourteen Archeological Sites in Mississippi River Navigation Pools 11-14, 16, and 20 in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Phase II testing was conducted to determine the NRHP eligibility of 14 sites on the Mississippi River. 11CA117, 11JD86, 11RI44, 11RI510, 11RI511, 11RI516, and 13MC12 are recommended not eligible for the NRHP. The other seven sites are recommended NRHP eligible. 47GT271 contains Early through Late Woodland components and is recommended for preservation and riprap placement. 47GT278 is a Late Woodland site. Due to bank erosion Phase III data recovery is recommended. 11JD36 contains late Middle Woodland and Late Woodland components and this site is recommended for preservation. 11RI375 has been damaged by bank erosion, railroad and recreation trail construction. An Early and Late Woodland shell midden is present and Phase III data recovery is recommended. 11RI180/508 has a late Late Woodland component with household middens and features. Phase III data recovery is recommended in portions not damaged by construction. 13CN57 is a probable Early Woodland site impacted by bank erosion. Phase III data recovery is recommended. 22LE338 has Woodland and Archaic components and is recommended for preservation.
