Turmeric (Curcuma longa L), one of the widely used spices and herbal medicines, is rich in biologically active compound curcumin. RNASeq was employed for gaining an understanding on the molecular mechanism underlying curcumin biosynthesis as well as for generating EST based SSR markers for germplasm characterization and phylogenetic studies.
