Nine dairy cows were subjected to increasing amounts of rapidly fermentable carbohydrates in the diet to induce decreases in rumen pH and milk fat depression. By comparison of specific 18-carbon fatty acid proportions with bacterial community, this study aimed to gain more insight in the microbiology of the trans-11 to trans-10 shift in the rumen, which is associated with dietary induced milk fat depression.
