Maldives (Maghoodoo, Adanga, Faafu atoll) water chemistry and lagoon stable isotopes

This dataset contains nearshore water nutrient concentrations and stable isotope (δ¹³C, δ¹⁵N) and C/N ratio measurements from a paired Control–Impact study in Faafu Atoll, Maldives. The study assessed whether a small inhabited island (Magoodhoo) generates detectable anthropogenic nutrient enrichment in adjacent coral reef lagoons compared with an uninhabited control island (Adanga). Water samples were collected at three distances from shore (5, 50, and 100 m) and analysed for dissolved inorganic nitrogen species (NH₄⁺, NO₂⁻, NO₃⁻, TIN), total organic nitrogen (TON), total nitrogen (TN), orthophosphate (PO₄³⁻), and total phosphorus (TP). Stable isotope and C/N measurements were made on three focal taxa: the calcareous green alga Halimeda spp., a mixed group of non‑calcareous macroalgae, and the giant clam Tridacna spp. The dataset includes: water_chemistry.csv – cleaned water nutrient data with island, transect, and distance identifiers. stable_isotopes.csv – cleaned stable isotope and C/N data for the focal taxa.
