This study describe the first identification of a new coronavirus associated with the European badger (Meles meles) that was preliminarily named Meles Cov. The low genetic identity across most of its genome and the outgroup clustering in all tested genes suggest this virus not only represents a new viral species but might belong to a novel Epsiloncoronavirus genus that is yet to be uncovered.
