Genotyping of wild derived Eimeria isolates

Coccidians of the genus Eimeria have been described as monoxenous, intracellular parasites. Assumptions on a high degree of host and tissue specificity are used extensively to delineate species. Eimeria species in rodents have shown a degree of specificity and it has been demonstrated experimentally that they can be transmitted between different species and even genera of rodents .We used a microfluidics PCR system to amplify 48 genetic regions in parallel. We aimed to assess the genotype for the different Eimeria isolates and establish the population structure of these parasites in wild populations of rodents, particularly house mice (Mus musculus) and field mice (Apodemus).
