资源简介:
We seek to identify the thinning history of the David Glacier since the last glacial maximum, approximately 20,000 years ago. We will do this by sampling glacial erratics deposited on 5 rocky outcrops along the flanks of David Glacier and analysing them for their exposure history. While all sites contained the precise type of samples we intended on sampling (glacial erratics), the overall amount exceeded our expectations. In particular, the Mt. Kring site, which is located in the interior of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet revealed a plethora of amazing glacial cobbles with the optimal composition for the type of lab work we intend on doing. Overall, the 5 sites provide the opportunity to fully capture long term thickness variations of the David Glacier from the ice sheet interior to the glacier outlet in the Ross Sea.
