Coccidioidomycosis is a deep mycosis endemic to desert areas of the American continent. Coccidioides immitis and C. posadasii are the etiological agents of the disease and for almost seven decades the C. posadasii strain Silveira has been used in over as model studies of the disease and is a widely reported experimental strain. The genome of the Silveira strain was resequenced using both Single Molecule Real Time Sequencing (SMRT) PacBio And Illumina MiSeq technologies, assembled into chromosomal-level contigs and the genes were annotated using sophisticated and curated in silico tools. This high-quality genome draft has improved to chromosomal-level scaffolds and the gene set was re-annotated and improved allowing for the identification of structural variants in future functional, structural and population genomics studies.
