POLITICAL REPRESSIONS OF 1937–1938 AND DISRUPTED MEDICAL DEVELOPMENT IN UZBEKISTAN: A HISTORIOGRAPHICAL AND ARCHIVAL ANALYSIS OF KHAYRINISO MAJIDKHONOVA'S LEGACY

This article examines the historiography of the political repressions of 1937–1938 in Uzbekistan and their impact on the intellectual capacity of the national healthcare system. The subject is analyzed through the principal methodological approaches and scholarly interpretations established in both Uzbek and international historiography. Particular attention is devoted to the scholarly significance of fundamental studies on the Jadid movement, the activities of the national intelligentsia, and the history of political repression. The article critically evaluates the extent to which the problem of intellectual capital lost by Uzbekistan’s healthcare system as a consequence of political repression has been addressed in existing scholarship. The life and professional legacy of Khayriniso Majidkhonova are examined as an important historical case for understanding this issue. Drawing upon archival documents and contemporary scholarly sources, the study assesses the historical significance of her medical education in Germany and her subsequent professional activities in Uzbekistan. The research identifies several issues that remain insufficiently explored in the existing historiography from the perspective of the history of medicine. Furthermore, it provides a theoretical justification for reassessing the consequences of political repression through the conceptual frameworks of human capital and intellectual heritage. The findings contribute to a new conceptual understanding of the relationship between political repression and the history of medicine within Uzbek historiography.
